In 1846, Edward Bangs Knight is listed in the Worcester Business Directory and Advertiser as an engineer working for J. H. Litch, a manufacturer of window frames, doors and panel work and living in a house at 4 Myrtle. In 1850, he is listed as working at Gouldings and living in a house at 10 Myrtle. His father is living at the same address. In 1852, Edward is still working at Gouldings but now lives at 27 Hanover and his father is no longer living in the same house. The next change is in 1855 when Edward is listed as working at Willard Williams and Co. Edward and his brother, Daniel, are not listed in the directory of 1856. He is next found in the Federal Census of 1860. He, his wife and 2 children are living in Amboy, Lee County, Illinois. The Federal Census of 1870 shows Edward Bangs Knight, his brother, Daniel, and their families residing on farms in South Dixon Township, Lee County, Illinois. Edward farmed for several years and then retired to Dixon. The Portrait and Biographical Record of Lee County, Illinois published in 1892 states, "...they (Mary Ann and Edward) are still living an active life, and are well known and honored for their sterling merits. They are members in high standing of the Presbyterian Church, and their names are associated with all who are an influence for good in the community".
