I believe that he was the s. of John Beaton, 5th Laird of Balfour b. 1440 d. 1507 Keeper of Falkland Palace and Marjory Boswell, his wife. John Beaton may be the younge son of John Beaton b. 1415 Holkettle d 1499 Balfour and Catherine Sterling b. Abt 1418. David Beaton b 1494 d. 1546 assassinated at St. Andrew's, Cardinal Archbishop of St. Andrews and nephew of James above. I think he was the s. of John Beaton of Balfour b. abt. 1465 (br.
