Solomon Peter Shearer

   Another name for Solomon was Sol.

  General Notes:

Solomon worked for a local mortician who also owned a furniture store. He also did some auctioneering.
Most of his sons sang in the choir; one sang bass and two sang tenor. He was responsible for many choir members in the church, and quite a few cousins still sing there today.
Solomon sang bass in the church choir along with most of his sons and his wife. Grandma played the piano and formed a quartet who went out to sing in the surrounding area.
Even living in the center of Jacobus did not deter them from having chickens and pigs and a full garden.
Grandpa smoked cigars and you knew which door he went in the house last because the stub was on the window sill. Grandma would not let him smoke in the house.

Solomon married Mary Matilda Hildebrand. (Mary Matilda Hildebrand was born on 18 Aug 1887, died on 30 Nov 1976 and was buried in Salem Lutheran Church, Jacobus PA.)
