bullet  General Notes:

Lawrence Hill was a 1938 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Commerce and Business Administration. While in a work / study program at that university, he was a supervisor in charge of the waiters who worked in the mess hall that served the football team. Paul W. Bryant was, at the time, an assistant coach. He, of course, knew 'Bear' Bryant personally, through this association in the football mess hall. George Wallace, who would one day become Governor of Alabama and subsequently a candidate for President of the United States before becoming paralyzed by a sniper's shot, was a freshman at the University of Alabama when Lawrence was a senior.

Following graduation from University, his first employment was as District Employment and Labor Relations Officer for Federal Works Project Administration (WPA) in Alabama (1938-1941).

In his military history, he was recipient of the Legion of Merit. This is the award he was most proud of. All of his military experience was with the Department of the Army, Air Corps. The United States Air Force was in its infancy and in process of being established as a separate branch of the military from the Army.
