Robert Leavell and Hannah Herring(m. 1798 in Butler Co., OH) went from Butler Co. OH to Rush Co. IN, where they appear on the 1830 census; to Madison Co. IN in time for the 1840 census; to Grant Co. Indiana by the 1850 census, which gives his age as 52 and his wife as 48, both born Pennsylvania. They moved to Traverse City, Grand Traverse Co., Michigan with their son John and died there, buried near Walton Junction. Later the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad relocated the graves in their newly acquired right-of-way. Robert and Hannah, with 11 others outside the right-of-way, remained, but sparks from passing trains burned down the wooden crosses that once marked the spot.
Robert married Hannah Herring, daughter of George Jacob Herring and Catherine, on 25 Oct 1821 in Butler Co., OH. (Hannah Herring was born on 24 Oct 1795 in Schuykill Co., PA and died in 1872 in Kingsley, Grand Traverse Co., MI.)
