bullet  General Notes:

ANDREW JACKSON MALOTT, (also known as, "Leander", "Jackson", "Jack" and "A."J"). In 1851, Andrew and Zoa moved to Wabash Co., Indiana, where Zoa remained until her death on December 22, 1889. Her burial place is still unknown. In the winter of 1868, Andrew left Wabash, Co., Indiana and lived in Illinois, Missouri and Texas. In an affidavit,' signed by, Henry Wait, of Wabash Co., Indiana, he states that he lived in the same house with Andrew Jackson in the years 1865,1866,1867, and until the winter of 1868. This affidavit was in the Pension papers of Andrew Jackson.
On February 13, 1865, Andrew enlisted in the Union Army, in, Wabash Co.,Indiana, and served with Company H, 153rd Indiana Volunteers Infantry as a Private. On July 4, 1865, at Franklin, Kentucky, there was an alarm during the night and the Company turned out to the relief of the thickets, under the Command of Lieutenant Aquilla Myers, in jumping a ditch he fell and struck his left leg on a rock which caused varicose veins, from which he was much disabled during the time he was in the Service. He was discharged at Indianapolis, Indiana, on September 4, 1865. He describes himself as being, 6 foot 2 inches tall, dark complexion, dark hair, and hazel eyes.
He applied for a Pension #588555, and received $8.00 a month, for disease of left leg. He was paid the $8.00 up to May 4, 1896, and dropped due to death. He died in Dripping Springs, Hays Co., Texas. (24 miles S.W. of Austin, Texas.)
Andrew didn't divorce Zoa until just before she died in 1889, and then on August 20, 1890, in Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas, he married, Mary Waits. Since Andrew lived in Wabash Co., Indiana in the years of 1865-68, one can only wonder if Mary accompanied him to ILL, MO, and TX. In the 1900 Census of Hays Co.,Texas, she gives her birth as April 1855, mother of nine, eight living. Then in the 1910 Census of Bosque Co., Texas she says, mother of eight, five living. There was a child, Charles H. born August'15, 1866 in IN? or ILL?. Could Mary be his Mother? She would have been awful young. In the 1880 Census she gives Ohio as her birth place, but in the 1910 she gives Illinois. It's hard to determine just when Mary was born, as she gave different ages in the Census.
