bullet  General Notes:

Grandma was born in McKeesport PA and came to Greensburg as a young child. She grew up living in an apartment on Main Street in downtown Greensburg (near Thomas Florist). The original building has now been demolished.
Grandma always made sandtarts for the Christmas holidays. Sandtarts are those fragile stars and half-moon shaped holiday cookies, rolled, cut out, baked and then sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. Eating just one or two never satisfied us. They were simply delicious!
One of her favorite family holiday gatherings was Palm Sunday. This was the time of the year she made her famous "chop suey" with white rice. Chop suey consisted of small pieces of pork and veal, browned, and then adding celery, onion, water chestnuts and bean sprouts. Cooked until done and spooned over cooked white rice and sprinkled with soy sauce. Yummy!
Even in her later years between 80 and 90, Grandma always smelled of "Chantilly" cologne. She painted her nails red and wore minimal makeup. She always wanted to know what you were doing. It was not a nosey request, but one where she was genuinely interested in what projects you were working on. She always wanted to be a part of your life. I remember one time when she was about 80 years old, she was going to learn how to make chocolate candy at my apartment. We were going to start early - about 9 AM - and she said she would be there at 9 as she didn't want to miss anything.
The baby in the photo with Grandma Rosensteel as a young girl is her brother, Arthur Small. Arthur died from typhoid fever at the age of 21.
