bullet  General Notes:

July 19, 1763, during the French and Indian War, he was an Ensign in Captain Jacob Wetterholt's Company of York County Militia. At enlistment he was described as 5'9" tall, long faced, with brown hair and eyes. He enlisted in 1776 in the Revolutionary War and served the entire war, in First, Second and Eighth Battalion of Westmoreland County, PA, serving in the capacity of Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel. He was instrumental in the founding of Newtown, Bedford County (since Westmoreland Co.) often referred to as Truby's Town, which later became the present day city of Greensburg, Westmoreland County, PA.
A block house was built on Christopher's land for the protection of his family and neighbors. This he named Fort Allen and from here were frequently sent scouting parties against the Indians. The Old Tohickon Church was the worshiping place of Christopher and his parents and is where he met Isabella (Sybilla) Bauman who attended with her parents. While serving during the Indian Wars, Christopher visited Sybilla at the Moravian Seminary she was attending in Bethlehem and convinced her to elope. Under the hand of his Excellency John Dickenson, Esquire, President hair and Supreme Executive Council of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, on August 18, 1784, he was made Justice of the Peace in Westmoreland County. At the end of his 7 year term, he was reinstated by Governor Thomas Mifflin. Within a wall of a small alcove in the basement of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at corner of Pennsylvania St. and Second Avenue, Greensburg, rest the remains of the Colonel and Mrs. Christopher Truby. Originally buried in Old German Cemetery, their remains were placed in the alcove during rebuilding of the church after it had been destroyed by fire. Interment here was in1937.
