bullet  General Notes:

Anson's boyhood years were spent on his father's farm. Anson had a sharp eye, and as he tilled the soil he amassed a large collection of native American flint arrow heads. He excelled in grammar school and obtained a scholarship to attend Leheigh University, in Bethlehem. There he met his future wife. Upon graduation in 1913, he began teaching at a private school outside Bethlehem. The Laufer family farm was near a homestead owned by the Kresges, whose family owned a growing retail store business. Through this friendship, Anson was offered a job with the Kresges, and in 1917, he and Lois moved to Detroit. Anson Jr. was born in 1922, and Anson Sr. became personal secretary to Stanley S. Kresge, president and chairman of the S.S. Kresge Company. In that capacity, Anson Sr. traveled throughout the U.S. to monitor property & store development. Anson and Lois settled in Pleasant Ridge, a suburb of Detroit. In the late 1940's Lois became ill, suffered nerological deterioration, amnesia and died in 1951. In 1954 Anson married Marcella Sandt, nee Furey.
Anson Sr. was never lost his enjoyment of the outdoors. In his retirement he cultivated the company of squirrels and chipmunks that populated the great hardwoods of his Pleasant Ridge home. These 'happy Jacks' as he called them, ate from his hands, even darting into his pockets for the nuts and seeds he habitually carried.
He lived a full life that was taken away by cancer.
