Hervey retired in 1979 from the Bremen Foundry, he later worked part-time for Park 'N Shop in Argos. Recently he worked part-time for Don Gray Sales in Argos. He attended the Culver Bible Church.

Hervey married Lola Mae Wilhelm, daughter of Melvin Roy Wilhelm and Nora Estella Fry, on 16 Apr 1938 in Plymouth, Marshall County, IN. (Lola Mae Wilhelm was born on 27 Sep 1916 in Rensselear, Jasper County, IN, died on 23 May 1965 in Holy Cross Parkview Hospital, Plymouth, Marshall County, IN and was buried on 26 May 1965 in Maxinkuckee I.O.O.F Cemetery, Poplar Grove, Row 8, Culver, Indiana.)
