bullet General Notes:

Edward Gaskill or Gaskoyne
from Elizabeth Koleda's Book, "Gaskill Genealogy", p. 1 Edward Gaskill, immigrant - Edward Gascoign the immigrant, a shipright from England came to Boston in 1635. Some of his descendants suffering the perscutions of the Friends, by the Pilgrims, in Massachusetts moved to Shelter Island, New York.
The Gaskells and Gaskins of Monmouth and Burlington Co. New Jersey are of Huguenot origin, descending from Edward Gascoyne, a shipwright, who had a grant of land in Salem, Mass. in 1639. He had a son Samuel who married Provided Southwick...
In America, the name GASKILL first appears in the town records of Salem, Mass. in 1636. It first appears as GASKOYNE and soon after is variously spelled as GASKILL, GASKIN, GASKILE, GASKITT. It is probably that Edward Gaskoyne's wife was a member of the Southwick family or related in some way to Lawrence or Cassandra Southwick of Salem.
The Gaskill and Southwick families are closely linked in Salem and Essex Co., Mass. records. (from Olsen's Lippincott history).
