bullet  General Notes:

Ellen's parents were Finnish Swede's who met in America. Her father and mother both emigrated through Ellis Island, but at different times. They did not know each other. He came to America to work for a better life. She had come to America to marry her fiancé. When she got here, she found out that her fiancé had died. She had no money to return home, so she took a job as a cook in a logging camp in Humboldt Co., California. Ellen's father was a logger in this camp. What a relief it must have been for her to meet someone from her homeland that also spoke her language. Their friendship grew, and they were married. They bought some land, and working very hard, built up a large successful sheep ranch in Cazadero, Sonoma Co., Ca. Ellen was born on that ranch. Many large redwood trees grew on the ranch, some of which were used to build Fort Ross.
