bullet  General Notes:

Damey, who was a tiny little woman, was a great gardener and a wonderful mother. She was the oldest in a family of eight children, and she helped her mother, Bashby, raise the younger ones. She grew up in a Christian home. Her father, Greenberry Adams, was the grandson of a preacher, the reverend Jesse Meadows Adams. Jesse's father, Spencer Adams, also preached the gospel. married William Daniel Loffer at the age of 23, in Bruno, Arkansas. Their first four children were born in Bruno. About 1916, Damey and William moved to Miami, Oklahoma where her sister Lucy and brother-in-law Tom (brother of William) had moved a few years before. The children attended the North Miami school in Commerce, Oklahoma. At some point, their home burned to the ground. They lost a lot of family history and pictures in that fire. In later years, William and Damey's daughter Doris Loffer Biggs, talked about the fire, in a letter to a cousin who had asked about existing pictures of her grandfather, Greenberry Adams. She wrote: "I remember my grandfather Adams well - and how his father looked. We had large pictures that burned in a home fire. They were nice looking men". She went on to tell a story about grandfather, Greenberry Adams: she said "He was "The Walking Scriptures", defending the truth from house to house, field to field, wherever people would listen to him". Doris was sent along to look after him, as she and the very old man tramped miles to proclaim God's word. 1956, Damey made a trip to California to visit her sister Lucy, whom she had not seen for twenty years. Lucy and Tom Loffer left Oklahoma about 1936, and it was the only time the two sisters saw each other, before Damey died. Damey spent several weeks with Lucy, spending time with her nephews, Fred, Oscar and Harvey. She met a multitude of great nieces and nephews - the children of Harvey and Floyd Loffer. Damey passed away a few years later, of a stroke and hypertension. She was seventy four.
